The American Dream: From Aleppo to Paterson

The story began when Michael Fattal, the family patriarch, emigrated from Aleppo, Syria to Paterson with his wife and seven children. With little more than determination and heritage, he introduced the community to authentic Syrian pita bread, baked by hand in a brick oven.

As word spread, families traveled from across New Jersey to experience the new taste. Together with his son Edmond and son-in-law Norman, Michael laid the foundation for what would become a thriving family business.

Growth Through Tradition

What started as a bakery soon expanded to a full-service Middle Eastern market. Alongside pita bread, the Fattal family introduced:

The demand grew so quickly that the family purchased land next to their original bakery, building a larger store to house their expanding retail selection. Today, Fattal’s imports authentic products from top distributors across the Middle East and Mediterranean.

Now in its third generation, Fattal’s is still run by Edmond, Norman, and their children—Tiffany, Bianca, and Christopher. What has never changed are the core values instilled by Michael: hard work, honesty, and authenticity.
