In the heart of Paterson, New Jersey, stands Fattal’s Bakery, one of the first Middle Eastern bakeries in North Jersey. For more than 50 years, it has been a cornerstone of Arab American culture, welcoming generations of families with the same warmth and tradition that began in 1968.
The American Dream: From Aleppo to Paterson
The story began when Michael Fattal, the family patriarch, emigrated from Aleppo, Syria to Paterson with his wife and seven children. With little more than determination and heritage, he introduced the community to authentic Syrian pita bread, baked by hand in a brick oven.
As word spread, families traveled from across New Jersey to experience the new taste. Together with his son Edmond and son-in-law Norman, Michael laid the foundation for what would become a thriving family business.
Growth Through Tradition
What started as a bakery soon expanded to a full-service Middle Eastern market. Alongside pita bread, the Fattal family introduced:

Now in its third generation, Fattal’s is still run by Edmond, Norman, and their children—Tiffany, Bianca, and Christopher. What has never changed are the core values instilled by Michael: hard work, honesty, and authenticity.
