Mohammad Al-Shalabi, a talented young Syrian pastry maker from Al-Tal, Damascus Countryside, discovered his passion for desserts at an early age. After mastering the art of traditional Syrian sweets, he and his family immigrated to the United States in 2017, settling in Dearborn, Michigan — home to one of the largest Arab communities in America.

Like many new immigrants, Mohammad initially struggled, working in various restaurant jobs to support his family. Yet his passion for pastry-making never faded. Facing financial challenges that prevented him from opening a bakery, he decided to start from home, baking sweets in his own kitchen and selling them in mosques, community gatherings, and local events.

Over time, his skill and dedication earned him a strong reputation. Customers fell in love with his authentic Syrian desserts — from baklava and ma’arouk to namoura and qatayef — made entirely by hand with care and tradition. As demand grew, Mohammad began expanding his small home-based business, building a loyal customer base that continues to support him.

Today, Mohammad dreams of opening his own pastry shop in Dearborn, turning his homegrown success into a lasting business. His journey reflects the resilience and creativity of Syrian immigrants who transform challenges into opportunities, bringing the rich flavors of their homeland to American tables.
