From Chemistry Student to Syrian Product Ambassador: The Story of Khaldoun Hadid

How a Syrian entrepreneur brought the flavors of home to the United States

Khaldoun Hadid began his journey in Syria as a passionate student of industrial chemistry and aeronautical sciences. He could not have foreseen that the political turmoil in Syria would soon force him to make life-changing decisions for himself and his family.

Before leaving Syria, Khaldoun operated a successful tourism and travel office in Damascus until 2012. With the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, threats and instability forced him to flee with his family, first to Egypt and then to the United States in 2013, where they settled in Michigan.

Launching Diamonds Trading from a Garage

In Michigan, Khaldoun noticed a gap: high-quality Syrian products were largely absent from the American market. Driven by faith in the excellence of Syrian goods, he launched Diamonds Trading in 2015 from his home garage.

His first shipment from Syria was a financial loss, yet he refused to give up. Khaldoun’s vision was clear: support Syrian industry while introducing authentic flavors to U.S. consumers.

Building a Brand of Authenticity

Over the years, Khaldoun’s persistence paid off. By 2020, Diamonds Trading had become a leading distributor of Syrian products across more than 15 U.S. states, offering over 300 products renowned for their quality and authenticity.

These products became symbols of Syrian heritage and a connection to home for Arab communities across the United States.

  • Tamara

  • Basateen Al-Sharq

  • Sunwhite Rice

  • Saudi Dates

These products became symbols of Syrian heritage and a connection to home for Arab communities across the United States.

Supporting the Arab-American Community

Beyond business, Khaldoun’s work highlights the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of Syrian immigrants in America. His journey demonstrates how dedication and cultural pride can turn challenges into opportunities, while introducing the wider American market to authentic Syrian flavors.
