Ford Recalls 230,000 Vehicles in the U.S. Over Dashboard Display Software Failure
Bronco and Bronco Sport models affected as faulty digital screens risk hiding vital driving data, prompting urgent repairs.
Ford has announced a recall of nearly 230,000 vehicles in the United States after discovering a software defect in the dashboard display screen that may prevent vital driving information from appearing, including speed indicators and warning lights.
The recall includes Bronco and Bronco Sport models from the 2025 and 2026 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency confirmed the recall in an official notice published on November 18, as reported by CBS News.
Software Glitch Raises Safety Concerns
According to documents Ford submitted to regulators, the software defect sometimes causes the digital display to malfunction and fail to show essential information needed by the driver—significantly increasing the risk of accidents if the driver does not notice the missing data. The agency noted that all vehicles included in the recall contain this software flaw and must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible.
Ford confirmed that it will resolve the issue through a software update that can be installed for free at authorized dealerships, or via an over-the-air update sent directly to affected vehicles without requiring a service center visit. The company has increasingly adopted this method for handling software-related issues due to its speed and ability to reach large numbers of customers within a short time.
NHTSA records show that Ford was aware of 12 potential warranty claims directly linked to this defect as of November 7, 2025, although no accidents or injuries have been reported. However, regulators stressed the need for swift action to prevent any potential future risks—especially as automakers continue to rely heavily on digital systems to operate modern vehicles.
Growing Scrutiny Over Ford’s Technical Reliability
Affected owners can contact Ford customer service through the dedicated recall hotline: 1-866-436-7332, using the company’s internal recall number 25SC3. Ford stated that all customers will be provided with the necessary instructions to ensure their vehicles receive the update without delay.
This recall comes amid a series of technical issues the company has faced over recent months. Just last month, Ford recalled approximately 740,000 vehicles due to problems with rear-view cameras, steering systems, and seat belts. Reports indicate that the company issued several additional recalls last year related to faulty rear cameras, sparking broad debate over the quality of software and driver-assistance systems in its modern models.
These repeated recalls highlight the challenges faced by automakers in the era of smart vehicles, where software now plays a central role in vehicle operation, while traditional mechanical failures have become less common. Although advanced electronic systems provide a more sophisticated and safer driving experience, any software error can become a sensitive point of vulnerability requiring rapid action to protect drivers and ensure compliance with federal safety standards.
Ford emphasized that it continues to improve the quality of its digital systems and enhance its technical monitoring processes, stressing that ongoing cooperation with regulatory agencies aims to maintain customer trust and address any emerging issues with maximum transparency and efficiency.
