Islamic Center of Charlotte: Building Faith and Community Since 1988
A historic and welcoming institution uniting Muslims in Charlotte through education, worship, and service.

Founded on August 1, 1988, the Islamic Center of Charlotte (ICC) has been a cornerstone of spiritual growth, community service, and cultural unity for Muslims in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally known as the Islamic Society of Masjid Al-Islam, the organization officially changed its name to the Islamic Center of Charlotte on May 21, 1992, marking the beginning of a new era of expansion and community engagement.
A Structured and Inclusive Organization
The ICC operates under a well-defined organizational structure designed to promote transparency, leadership, and inclusiveness. It consists of:
-
General Assembly: Registered members of the community who form the foundation of the center’s governance.
-
Board of Directors: Elected by the General Assembly to oversee operations and strategic direction.
-
Board of Trustees Council: An oversight body ensuring accountability and long-term stability.
-
Religious Affairs Council: Led by the Head Imam and supported by assistant Imams who guide religious activities, education, and community outreach.
-
Executive, Ad-hoc, and Outreach Committees: Focused on maintaining programs, community service, and interfaith engagement.

A Welcoming Community for All
Since its establishment, the Islamic Center of Charlotte has been more than just a mosque—it’s a home for families and individuals seeking faith, friendship, and a sense of belonging. One community member who has attended since 2005 shared:“I feel at home here. The sisters are friendly, and the imam and administrators are very helpful and knowledgeable. I can honestly say this community has been great to me and my family.”
This sentiment reflects the ICC’s core values: compassion, education, and unity.
Faith, Service, and Growth
Over the decades, the ICC has grown into a vibrant hub for religious learning, social support, and youth development. The center regularly hosts Qur’an classes, community iftars, youth programs, interfaith dialogues, and charitable initiatives, serving as a bridge between Muslim residents and the wider Charlotte community.
As Charlotte continues to grow and diversify, the Islamic Center of Charlotte remains steadfast in its mission — fostering a strong, faith-driven community rooted in Islamic values and open to all.
