Hisham Moazab: Leading the Yemeni American Society of North Alabama Toward Unity and Success

Under Hisham Moazab’s leadership, YASA has become a model for Yemeni-American communities nationwide—launching the first Yemeni Trade Expo in the U.S. and sponsoring the Yemeni American Cup in Alabama.

Hisham Moazab, President of the Yemeni American Society of North Alabama (YASA), has transformed the Yemeni community in North Alabama into a model for Yemeni-American communities across the United States. His leadership highlights the community’s strength in unity, cooperation, and business development, laying the foundation for collective success.

One of YASA’s most significant achievements was organizing the first-ever Yemeni Trade Expo in the United States, showcasing Yemeni products, businesses, and cultural projects. This historic event brought together Yemeni-American entrepreneurs from across Alabama, marking a milestone in the history of the Yemeni diaspora in America.

YASA also played a leading role as the official sponsor of the Second U.S. Yemeni American Cup, a soccer championship for Yemeni-American communities, hosted in Alabama last week. The society was represented by its official team, the Alabama Eagles Club, which proudly carried the community’s name in the national tournament.

Founding of YASA

The Yemeni American Society of North Alabama was officially established on August 3, 2019, following a large consultative meeting of Yemeni families in Huntsville and surrounding areas. The goal was to create a unified social and cultural body to represent and serve the community across multiple generations.

Preparatory and advisory committees drafted bylaws aligned with U.S. laws and local regulations, ensuring democratic transparency. Free elections were then held, resulting in the first leadership board:

  • President: Hisham Moazab

  • General Secretary: Hilal Al-Hubaishi

  • Financial Officer: Ali Al-Samawi

  • Social Affairs Officer: Sadiq Fayez Al-Maliki

  • Media Officer: Raed Sarhan

  • Sports Officer: Sadiq Al-Zamzami

  • Cultural Officer: Saqr Huraim

Mission and Vision

YASA’s mission is to unite and empower Yemeni-Americans in North Alabama, while promoting cultural pride, economic collaboration, and community service. Its objectives include:

  • Strengthening business and trade opportunities for Yemeni-American entrepreneurs

  • Preserving Yemeni cultural heritage while fostering integration into American society

  • Supporting youth development through sports, education, and cultural programs

  • Enhancing social and community welfare through cooperation and shared initiatives

Through these efforts, YASA has positioned itself as a powerful example of how immigrant communities can thrive while preserving their roots and contributing to the broader American society.
