Delta to End Midland, Texas Flights This November

Airline drops underperforming Austin-Midland route, reallocates planes to higher-demand markets

Delta Air Lines will end all flights to Midland, Texas, effective November 8, 2025, as part of a network restructuring plan designed to match actual travel demand.

The decision comes even as Delta reported strong second-quarter earnings. The airline said resources will be redirected toward more profitable markets, including new routes to Denver, Columbus, and Kansas City.

Launched in April 2024, the Austin–Midland service failed to meet expectations. U.S. Department of Transportation data shows the route’s load factor stayed below 60% over the past year, signaling consistently weak demand.

Delta will reassign aircraft and gate slots to stronger-growth routes from Austin, now its second-largest hub after Southwest Airlines.

Local leaders expressed disappointment but stressed ongoing investment in Midland’s airport infrastructure. Despite Delta’s exit, Southwest Airlines will continue operating daily nonstop flights between Austin and Midland. City officials are also exploring ways to attract new carriers.

Delta said it will contact passengers with bookings after November 8 to arrange refunds or rebookings.
