Voters across Southeast Michigan cast their ballots in dozens of local races and ballot proposals during a general election that included major cities such as Detroit, Pontiac, and Southfield, alongside key funding decisions for schools, public safety, and infrastructure in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties.

In Detroit, City Council President Mary Sheffield won a sweeping victory in the mayoral race, defeating Reverend Solomon Kinloch with 76.79% of the vote to 22.69%, according to Associated Press projections.

At 37 years old, Sheffield becomes Detroit’s first female mayor, adding another milestone to her record as the youngest person ever to serve as City Council President since 2022.

The election began with nine candidates before Sheffield and Kinloch advanced from the August primaries. Sheffield will succeed incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan, who chose not to seek re-election and instead pursue an independent bid for Michigan governor.
